2022 was certainly a momentous year for glass as it took the spotlight on the global stage for the UN-designated International Year of Glass. While we celebrate the wonder of glass every day of every year, the Museum had so many special moments in 2022.
After such an incredibly busy and celebratory year, this blog is a privilege to work on; it’s a wonderful opportunity to look back at all we’ve accomplished—and it’s even better to remember it all through our visitors’ eyes.
With all the wonderful things that happened this year, it was hard to narrow our visitors’ posts down to my top nine.

- From @volansinthesky: Our members had the opportunity to get the first look at this year’s special exhibition Past | Present: Expanding the Stories of Glass with a fun champagne toast.
- From @claire.a.glass: Glassmaking students from Sheridan College came down from Hamilton, Ontario, to spend a day at The Studio and hear from Resident Advisor William Gudenrath.
- From @lucidclick: Visitors are always mesmerized by the beauty of glass during our glassmaking demonstrations and Alex Young does a fantastic job making glass and narrating our flameworking demos!
- From @bisayamommy: I love this portrait in front of Leo Tecosky’s The 36th Chamber. One of the things that makes this piece so magical is that Leo came to Corning and spray-painted the designs on the wall himself!
- From @adayamonthayear: One of my favorite programs each year is Expanding Horizons, where teens from all over the country come to Corning for a week-long immersion program at The Studio.
- From @stardustandpineneedles: Spencer Finch’s The Secret Life of Glass has quickly become a visitor favorite! I love how this commission speaks to the window behind it: each color represents a five-degree temperature range and it shows what the temperature on the window glass was like on February 24 around 4:30 pm.
- From @gottglass: Susan Gott taught at The Studio this summer and it was incredible to see sandcasting up close and personal. Nothing beats watching molten glass being poured.
- From @arts_at_alfred: Students from Alfred University’s glass program assisted the Hot Glass Team during a demonstration at the Glass Art Society in Tacoma, WA. It’s so cool to see students take the stage of our Mobile Hot Shop and I’m excited to see where they take the field of glass!
- From @cbrowntravel: The best part about appreciating glass is getting to make it yourself! I love this selfie of a family about to begin their Make Your Own Glass experience.
