What has your involvement been with The Studio over the years? I was there when The Studio opened in 1996. The time flies! I have had the wonderful opportunity to work there. The Studio is very clean, very nice—fantastic! Corning gives an incredible opportunity with artists to make wonderful work, and the people there make a huge difference. I have not had the opportunity to work there in recent years, but I remember the spirit there was super fantastic. There are a lot of young people—the students—who get to work there and make a lot. It’s a wonderful opportunity.

What do you like about working at The Studio? I like the cleanness, and the staff is very professional. There is the wonderful opportunity to visit the Museum. Amy Schwartz and Bill Gudenrath are super professional. The Studio is wonderful and I like it a lot.

As The Studio celebrates its 20th birthday, what would you say about its effect on the glass community? I think The Studio is a leader in the glass community. It should be an example for another 20 studios around the country with the same philosophy, same equipment, etc. Everybody wants to be in front of their mentors. The Studio has taught all the right things. It is wonderful. I would like to use more of The Studio in the future, if possible.

Thanks, Lino!

May 2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the opening of The Studio of The Corning Museum of Glass, one of the foremost teaching schools for glass in the world. To celebrate, we are featuring 20 artists in the 20 weeks leading up to the birthday. These artists have studied, taught, and created at The Studio. Each Saturday, we’ll share words and work from the artists who have formed a connection with our Studio and our staff.
