Spencer Finch uses poetry, art history, history and science to investigate the mechanics of perception. In locations all over the world including the ancient city of Troy (in present-day Turkey); Rouen, France; Monument Valley, Utah; and Emily Dickinson’s home in Amherst, Massachusetts—he has attempted to capture the indescribable qualities of light, color, and reflection.
Finch has explored glass as a material, and the architectural design of The Corning Museum of Glass, to create a new work for the Museum one of four special commissions incorporating glass and light to celebrate the opening of the Museum’s new Contemporary Art + Design Galleries.
