The metal stand of this 17th century roemer, a drinking vessel for wine or beer, features a gilt dolphin supporting a rearing horse. The horse is holding an elaborate urn with raised swags of fruit and swags. The three arms projecting from the top end in birds’ heads, with curved projections behind each head. As is common to roemers, the body is decorated with prunts.
