Portraits of Amory Houghton, Sr. and Sophronia Mann Oakes Houghton Added to Rakow Library Collection

These cabinet cards are of Amory Houghton, Sr. (1812–1882), the founder of Corning Glass Works, and his wife Sophronia Mann Oakes Houghton (1814–1880). During the Victorian era, it was customary to mail such cards to family and friends abroad. Clearly once belonging to the Houghton family, the backs of the cards are labeled “Grandfather Houghton” and “Grandmother Houghton” respectively.
